With Shale Gas, Do We Still Need Biofuels?” Sagacious Partners’ Science Café with Dr. John Regalbuto

Join us December 8 at Speakeasy for a free, engaging talk with a cold drink in a laidback environment

Columbia, S.C. (Dec. 3, 2015) – SmartState Endowed Chair in Renewable Fuels, Dr. John Regalbuto, will join us for Science Café December 8, 2015, 6:00 p.m. at Speakeasy in Five Points, 711 Saluda Ave.

Dr. Regalbuto will lead the discussion in, “With Shale Gas, Do We Still Need Biofuels?” Due to the addition of shale oil and gas in the alternate energy research for transportation fuels, time horizon, underground environment effects, greenhouse gas emissions, and political implication have all become topics of interest. Dr. Regalbuto will touch base on all of these subjects in his talk, as well as the role his Center of Catalysis for Renewable Fuels has in sustainable energy independence.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of South Carolina welcomed Dr. Regalbuto in 2011 as the SmartState Endowed Chair of the Center of Catalysis for Renewable Fuels. Before this, he worked at the University of Illinois at Chicago for 25 years, which included three years as the Catalysis and Biocatalysis Program Director in the Engineering Directorate of the National Science Foundation.

Since joining USC, Dr. Regalbuto has focused his research on rational catalyst synthesis toward the optimization of supported metal catalysts for biomass conversion and solar fuels.

Science Café is presented monthly by SmartState and managed by Sagacious Partners.
